LOCAL BACKPORCH COFFEE

Roasted in Bend!

Backporch Coffee Roasters started on a skateboard, in an alley, in Eugene Oregon. It was there that skate contests were held while coffee roasted on Dave’s backporch. You could smell coffee roasting down the block.

Backporch Coffee Roasters is born and raised Bend. Owner and operator, Dave Beach has been buying and roasting coffee for 16 years. Dave is passionate about bringing the best out in coffees (and people) and making sure that those who grow the coffee, are compensated fairly for their work.

From seed to cup, coffee is a crop that requires many hands to make complete. Backporch is very committed to excellence in each step of that process. We have direct trade connections in Central America, South America and Africa that we work closely with to accomplish that.

Roasted on Bend’s westside in a beautiful Loring Falcon, we cut no corners to bring you what we feel is the very best. And we are proud of that.

OREGON BLACKBERRY HONEY

In addition to our Local Prescott Honey, we are pleased to add Oregon Blackberry Honey to our list.

Their Story from Devin Prescott-

Ever since I can remember I have dreamed of one day being a farmer. When I was 10, I started a small fund with my Grandma to raise money for a chicken farm. I participated in 4-H, showing chickens and sheep. I built greenhouses and experimented with growing nursery plants for resale.

In 2006 my calling as a farmer came in an unexpected way.

Growing up, there was a beehive in the hollow of an old willow tree in our yard. That summer it decided to swarm. My 13-year-old self got the idea I was going to catch that swarm of bees no matter the cost! Some rubber gloves, a hoodie, and cheesecloth made up my first “bee suit” and I got the job done. My first swarm! I began learning all I could in books and online. I joined the local bee club as well and got some hands-on experience. My bee hobby began to grow by catching more swarms and splitting my hives.

By the time I graduated High School, I had 40 hives. The idea of pursuing beekeeping as a career was exciting, but knew I had a lot to learn about business. I attended Oregon State University for four years and received a bachelor’s degree in business. While attending the University, I had the privilege of working for the honeybee research lab on campus. This wonderful experience confirmed my passion and my calling as a beekeeper.

The beekeeping operation grew to 500 hives during my college career, and by the time I graduated OSU I was fully committed to expanding my bee business. The company has now grown to manage several thousand beehives – producing honey that we sell wholesale and retail and pollinating crops across the Pacific Northwest. Honeybee pollination is essential to our lives, and I’m fortunate I get to be part of it while doing what I love.
